Long time no hear/see/say! Please forgive me and please excuse me for neglecting this blog AND all you potential customers that I have, even after some start up conversation, left out in the cold. I have been a hell of a bad classic Volvo salesman lately.
The reason is that I am frantically building on a small B&B unit on my premises. Hopefully it will be ready and open in July (this year!). Then I will be able to welcome all classic Volvo enthusiasts, and everyone else also, to Sweden in order to cruise for classic volvos, classic volvo parts or just enjoying my country.

In August, hopefully, the parts/car sales will be activated again.

Volvo was sold to China some days ago. Even though I most of all, of course, wanted my dear Mother of all Mother companies, AB Volvo, to return to its Swedish cradle I now welcome its sale from Ford Motor Company to Chinese auto manufacturer Geely Automobile. Looking upon global car manufacturing with sober eyes, there is no other way. And it is not even sure that this “no other way” is a way, at all. Car production in the world is grossly over sized and it is probably only in Asia there will be some relief for overburdened stocks. But will Volvo fit Asian customers? Will they be able to adapt?
Using global eyes looking above the car industry, an even more interesting concept dawns; the prospect of coming closer to China. With 1,32 billion people that are rapidly coming closer to our standard of living; driving cars, eating meat, reading newspapers, consuming electronics we face enormous problems. To handle these will be much more of a hand full than manufacturing cars. We have to come a lot closer to our Chinese, and Indian, brothers and sisters!

I am still here even if the winter, the hardest for two decades, almost has finished us off. But now the sun is shining and my cars are slowly coming out of workshops and snow drifts.

SAAB-svindeln fortsätter!

Först dock; Grattis alla Trollhättebor och alla andra SAAB- jobbare! Ni behåller jobben kvar i Trollhättan ett tag till. Och ett stort mega-credd till alla SAAB-entusiaster som ställde upp och körde supportrallyn med sina bilar runt om i världen och verkligen visade vad svensk bilentusiasm är för något. Jänkarna på GM blev nog verkligen förundrade och imponerade av ett sådant support för vårt svenska bilmärke. Strongt gjort! Dock ser jag inte att något som helst har förändrats till det bättre sedan jag skriv mitt inlägg den 2009-08-12, tvärtom!
För två dagar sedan så kungjordes att holländska Spyker Cars köper SAAB. GM tog till slut det steg som kanske gjorde minst skada för det egna bolaget. Svenska skattebetalare garanterar affären med att borga för ett lån i Europeiska Investeringsbanken på drygt 4 miljarder svenska kronor. En mindre seriös köpare än Spyker Cars VD, Victor Muller, får man leta länge efter. Tack vare, bland andra, svenska SÄPO så verkar det som att uppenbara kopplingar med rysk maffia är undanröjda men hela konstruktionen bakom Spyker verkar ju vara som taget ur en instruktionsbok för svindleri. Holländska myndigheter, intresseorganisationer och ekonomimedia ställer sig även mycket frågande till hela affären. Victor Muller verkar gilla bilar och han är mycket duktig på att prata men som ekonom verkar han vara en total katastrof! Dessutom är han redan fälld för insideraffärer! Hur kommer det sig att en sådan kille kan göra en sådan här affär..?
Alla som försöker ha någon som helst global överblick över bilindustri och biltillverkning måste inse att denna affär är dödfödd redan från början. Att den överhuvudtaget kom till har den främst det politiska läget att tacka för. Och svindlaren/bilentusiasten/snackaren Victor Muller förståss. Det politiska läget idag, valåret 2010, är ju detta att den borgliga alliansen ligger 10 % efter i opinionsundersökningarna. Motståndarsidan, de röd-gröna, har gång på gång kritiserat Maud Olofsson och kompani för att svika trollhätteborna och svensk fordonsindustri. Att då fälla affären i sista stund genom att neka borgen till EIB-lånet skulle antagligen vara lika med att förlora valet. I alla fall skulle uppförsbacken bli enorm. Så där vek Måddan & Co ner sig och bet i suräpplet och skickade iväg 4 millar ner i ett svart hål, allt för att försöka behålla makten även efter september. Anders Borg, som ibland är en man med sunda ekonomiska instinkter, framträdde i ett TV-inslag och sa att säkerheten för lånet alls inte är särskilt säker. Jag tyckte att det såg ut som att karln skämdes för vad regeringen hade gjort, vilket han borde.
Enda vägen upp ur det här hålet är att sätta en fet revisorsbevakning på hur dessa lånepengar hanteras. Lånet ska ju gå till utveckling av nya fordonskoncept för miljöns räddning. Hur ska det gå till när både SAAB och Spyker är rena superkonkursbon? Och med Victor Muller som en världsmästare i att slingra sig igenom den ena katastrofala årsberättelsen efter den andra..? Statsmakten bör kalla in revisorer som granskar vart enda kvitto och rapporterar kvartalsvis till oss skattebetalare hur allting framskrider. Det är väl det enda man kan slåss för nu!

Det är mysigt att ha en egen blogg där man kan skriva sitt hjärtas mening! Nu tillbaka till gamla Volvobilar…

Maybe Black Monday for SAAB

Even though this is a blog about Volvo I can not help putting down another line for SAAB. The SAAB-story is a thriller that has kept Sweden in a tight grip for weeks, by now. Everything is seriously pointing toward liquidation but there is still a lot of people that hope for a buyer that will continue the manufacturing of cars. Money is, as always in these cases, the problem. General Motors wants at least half a billion dollars to sell and so far no one has come up with that sum. I think, sadly, that the game is over and the last nail in the coffin might come today.
One financial adviser said ” If you want to continue with SAAB you need a big fortune to make a small fortune”. The odds for finding such a fortune hunter must be small.

Winter Solstice – Vintersolståndet

The longest night of the year. We have a lot (½ meter) of snow, and cold. It will be a white Christmas this time. I will light a small fire to celebrate this day.

It is a black Christmas for the workers at Swedish auto manufacturer SAAB. An estimated 8000 will loose their jobs. The Swedish corporate giant is thrembling in the final, corporate battle. Other automotive predators are closing the circle, looking for prey.

Volvo + Geely = Good combination

Chinese car manufacturer Geely have entered “the next step” in order to buy my dear mother of mother companies, AB Volvo. It is most likely that Geely will be the next mother for our cherished and broke (!) Swedish auto producer. Looking with global glasses on car production it is probably the best (and maybe only) step to take. I am looking forward to it!
Am also very much looking forward to buying a Geely Panda. They sell for €2500 in China. Hopefully, but not likely, the price will be the same here!

The Blog – The modern wip!

Gotta deliver, got to make a change, must get into the volvonian world a bit more and produce (!) more.

BUT the apples in my garden are ripe and need plucking and today I worked , in the sun, on my wood shed. My large autumn garden is the most fun place to be right now. There are lots of things growing on their very last days/weeks. It is closing time! Mixed in with the greenery, trees and lawns are tools, building material, cars, car parts (only Volvo of course), firewood (lots), compost (with millions of bad apples), bugs, snails, birds, deer, badgers and weird metal constructions from the past and a rail road as a neighbour. A lot of things happening.

Yesterday we had the first spell of frost. It is a small taste of a magic moment each year, when winter makes its first, needle pointed visit. These days, they remind me of past times when living in the north. With real winters then. It is also the beginning of the end for this type of growth, soon no plants growing.

Am sounding a bit like an environmentalist….

R.I.P. SAAB !

Jag är en Volvo- och motorentusiast sedan koltåldern men jag har även ett mycket intimt förflutet ihop med SAAB:s modeller (rally i början av 70-talet). Jag har dock alltid har försökt tona ner detta så det inte ska störa min image som “Volvoikon”. En del av mitt hjärta blöder nu en aning för SAAB, eller kanske främst för alla trogna SAAB-medarbetare i Trollhättan med omnejd där jag också har mycket släkt.
Blödningen till trots så vill jag INTE, som skattebetalare, ställa upp på att försöka göra konstgjord andning på SAAB. Jag vill INTE att vi skattebetalare ska borga för fyra miljarder kronor för ett lån till, i mitt tycke, mycket dubiösa affärsmän. Hopps, hoppas att Maud Olofsson kommer att fortsätta att ha tillräckligt med hår på bröstet för att kunna se igenom de futuristiska affärsplaner som dukas upp. Affärsmässigt sett så kan det ju inte finnas några som helst tvivel på att planerna inte håller, frågan är om hon klarar av trycket från de lidande trollhätteborna.
Nästa år är det valår och mycket står på spel, hoppas att du pallar trycket, Maud! Det finns enormt mycket bättre saker att lägga fyra mille på.
Ett STORT tack till alla tunga motorjournalister i dagspressen som ju direkt ser igenom hela problematiken och konsekvent avfärdar hela affären. Tack Jacques Wallner, Lasse Swärd, Håkan Matson, Robert Collin m.fl. Hoppas ni kan rädda våra skattepengar!
